An absolute Aladdin's cave of weird and wonderful stuff. Dark and slightly mysterious ambience... Nothing that my better half would approve of though, so I shan't be buying anything.

Literally the sweetest book store you’ll ever lay your eyes on. The inside is very tidy and well organized and the staff is always kind and helpful.

A really nice vegetarian café and bookshop. Very friendly owners. I was on my bike so the porridge with maple syrup and extra nuts was very welcome - and very well made. A selection of excellent teas and their coffee looked good. As did the cakes! As a second hand bookshop it's not at all musty and dusty. Good stock in good condition and we'll laid out. Obviously you don't eat the books, but still...

A great little cafe and book shop combo. Had probably the best chocolate cake I have ever ate in my life and the tea is amazing as well. If in Ripon, definitely give it a visit.

Bought a car from Harvey Cooper last year and again this year as I knew I would be getting a good deal and the customer service is second to none. Recently purchased a Golf GTI from Harvey Cooper. Very happy with the car and service received. The price they were charging for the car was reasonable and they gave a fair price for trading in my old car. They are also a good bunch of friendly guys who don't put any hard sales pressure on you (or I wouldn't have purchased). Will have a look what is in stock when I'm ready to change again.

Just went there to get a "vehicle health check" on a used Mitsubishi Outlander we bought elsewhere. They were very helpful, thorough and gave us a printed report as well as access to an online version complete with video describing what they found. How good is that 😍

I have just returned home from Upstairs Downstairs having bought three more fabulous items in their incredible sale. My husband sees the familiar red and white bag and just sighs inwardly. 'Think what I've saved' I cry as I show him my wares. I have always had a positive experience at Upstairs Downstairs - the ladies are so friendly and helpful and so good at find just the right item that you will look great in. I love that they are so non-judgmental - I only ever buy clothes in the sale - but they welcome me with open arms and can't do enough to help. Over the years I have bought some amazing items, from winter coats to knee length boots, interview outfits, dresses for special occasions, but what I love best is the normal every day clothes you can buy there - jeans and vest tops that are ideal for holidays and at a price that you couldn't get anywhere, even high street stores in the sale. I have been a fan of Upstairs Downstairs since I came to Ripon eleven years ago and have built up a fabulous wardrobe of incredible - but affordable - items. Carole and her team are so accommodating and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. I love how smart they always are, wearing clothes from the shop that make you go 'Oooh I love your top, have you got it in my size...?' I am a PE teacher and spend my life in sports kit and trainers but I think that every other item of clothing I own is from Upstair Downstairs. As my father would say 'You can't beat quality' and that's what shopping at Upstairs Downstairs is - a quality experience. Thanks ladies - always a pleasure xx

A little bit of India in the little city of Ripon. I absolutely adore popping into Karma, be it to stock up on incense sticks, search for quirky gifts or chat with Liz the owner. Every time I go in my senses go overdrive, in a truly lovely way. The colours in the shop just make me joyful and think of trips to India where you get the same delightful assault on your senses. Have a trip into Karma and I bet you're not disappointed. Wonderful.

Great local independant store in Ripon, just what we need! Dangerous for my wallet but my wife loved the gift I bought and a few of the furniture pieces looked good to. Wife's already being back for a couple of the bath bombs!

Great little shop. My partner uses it regularly for all those stationery needs. Good also for those last minute presents you may have forgotten like books or games. Good choices available at great prices even though it is quite a small, sometimes cramped feeling little shop. Friendly staff.

This is a course you have to do knife making under the expert guidance of Stuart, this was a 50th birthday treat and i must say after 3 days of surberb guidance and sutbke teaching i have a knife i can call my own and can pass on to my son in time, now looking at my calender to get back tp do the axe course.

Fantastic independent treasure trove of a wide range of beers, lagers, ciders and spirits. They've probably got those you may have vaguely heard about and quite a few you won't have; from round the world. Well worth a visit or two.

Top notch service every time. Very knowledgeable, experienced, fair and candid. Best wheelbuilder I’ve come across - a real perfectionist. Had Zipps built, Chris King hubs serviced (he’s fastidious), DT hubs serviced, bearings changed, down to needing a quick wheel truing when passing on a ride (done in 5 mins before we got cold). They’ve been running local rides for a couple of years now, which have burgeoned - unsurprising given Neil and Mark’s talent and enthusiasm.

This is a fantastic shop. The range of products is superb. I'm a particular fan of the weird cleaning products that have a little screen above them showing a video extolling their merits. Reminds me of the old Ronco adverts.

Great for lots of bits and things and pretty good prices too but unfortunately the staff can sometimes feel a little unapproachable or not keen to serve. On a couple of occasions I have had to wait while the cashier fiddles or re-stocks something by the tills and couldn't be less interested in serving. Not good!

Tidy store. Friendly staff. Just do the Argos thing. Choose your item. Punch in the code. Pay the price. Pickup your item.

Great place to get fresh cuy flowers from a small bunch to a larger bunch they'll be able to make a good bunch of flowers and it cost less than I expected it to be The staff were friendly and helpful really good service Everything was done efficiently When I said that I had a set amount of money to spend but wasn't sure what to get they couldn't have been more helpful and they will deliver for just a £1 delivery fee and ask you what times is best to deliver aswell as which day The flowers lasted for a good 2weeks which is longer than I had expected them to last

A lovely, fresh, well stocked shop directly in the middle of the square. We have never entered and not come out with what we required. Such pleasant staff who are always ready to assist you.

A smallish store but seems to have most things you'd need in stock. A good selection of salads and sandwiches plus a pharmacy counter. Good selection of perfumes and after shaves, cosmetics plus most toiletries. Friendly staff in you need any help.

We haven't been to every nursery in the Harrogate area but out of the few that we have been to, this place had an excellent selection and good prices. Staff was helpful and we found this to be the right place to get our garden started for the summer.

Excellent service they always ensure plants are delivered in the week and not held in shipment over the weekend. What plants! Bought 6 and a couple were ready to divide up so 14 plants for the price of 6. Well packaged fast delivery and you get well grown plants. I'm a repeat customer and haven't lost one of their plants yet, even the spare ones that come attached. Give them a try you won't regret it.

I am biased on this one, so disclaimer in advance (am related to owners). Now that aside; it is one of the largest, if not the largest, Primula Auricula specialists (and sell nothing else!). Holding a border national collection that is planted up for people to come and see, along with hundreds of other cultivars in beds. Alpine, border, edges, selfs, doubles, fancies, are all represented here and sold (although very much a spring flowering plant). If you do order from their website they will communicate with you as each step is done, and will advise happily any new or old customers should they ring asking for advice. Furthermore they will hold off sending plants should the weather be dangerous to the plants for their transit, although will inform if they do this and you can always ask for them to be sent to you regardless. Several times a year holds open days during which the is a café opened in a nearby "log cabin" with proceeds going to charity. Check their website for information on "drop in days" as well. Now I am not all sunshine and roses here, and I may get some evil looks from them but; This is located on the back of a farm yard, the ground is gravel with intermittent steps or glass slopes. As such it is not designed to be wheel chair friendly (the benches in the tunnels are at "working" height so can be hard to see from a wheel chair, or so I have been told). The outside flower beds are accessible via grass areas as such if your wheelchair can traverse grass/gravel you should be fine for the most part. Lastly if it is wet please bare in mind it is a working nursery on a farm and it can get muddy. The is shelter in the tunnels and the cafe but only the cafe is heated, so please bring appropriate clothes.

Excellent old fashioned service, great watch mending skills. For major repairs you need to be prepared to leave your watch for a long time but it is worth the wait.

Another chain has its place gives out far too many useless vouchers but now all the independent newsagents have closed you are stuck with it
